Biodiversity

Our region contains significant areas of biodiversity and we work hard to ensure its ongoing protection.

From unique Threatened Species such as the Mary River Cod, Mary River Turtle and the Queensland Lungfish (all endemic to our local area), to the World Heritage Listed Fraser Island, RAMSAR Wetlands of the Great Sandy Straits, significant Marine Habitat areas in the Great Sandy Marine Park  and Mon Repo Conservation Area for the Endangered Loggerhead Turtle, along with tens of thousands of Hectares of vegetation providing Biodiversity Corridors and Essential Habitat for Endangered, Vulnerable and Rare (EV&R) Species; we’ve got a lot to be proud of and a lot to take care of.

Fortunately our region has many conservation, landcare and catchment care groups who work together to ensure that the significant Biodiversity of our region is considered and protected year after year.
